Hey guys. Got in my 90 f150 4x4 4.9 this morning and once started noyiced a strong gas smell in the cab. found the problem it seems I have a leak around the injector for the third cylnder from the front. I have never dealt with injectors before and need some guidance. It appeare to me that I will have to pull the upper part of the manifold to access the injectors. Looks like kind of a big job. Please point me in the right direction. How much are injectors, while im in there should I change them all ( 4.9 has 1ook) How do I change them, anything else I should do while manifold is off? Any advice is really needed fumes are making me sick to my stomach. Thanks guys.
Well to take the manifold off you have to undo all the vacuum lines, the throttle cable, the hot water line to the throttle body, and the air pipe. Get yourself a set of fuel line tool seperator things and remove the fuel line. Unbolt the fuel rail and a good tug should free it from the injectors (they might come out with the rail) then all you need to do is clean em up a bit and put new o-rings on them. there should be two on each, one top and one bottom.
Assuming the fuel setup it fairly similar to 5.0..
well you in there you might as well take the lower manifold off and clean all the carbon out as well as the upper and put in some new gaskets
thanks for the quick response. do you think that it is just the o rings leaking?
either that or where the fuel line connects to the fuel rail, i think there is a couple of o-rings on there too...maybe just pop off the top manifold and turn the key over and have someone check when the fuel pump turns on. Id say replace them all just for good luck
