Well.. I've been fiddling around with this idea.. Don't know how well it'll work.. Figured I'd get some opinions..
I'm working on my Ham Operator License.. Once that's finished I'll be chasing tornado's a lot more during the season.. I already have my Skywarn tags on the vehicle.. Now warning system in the works.. I'm thinking about putting on like a 70" (Not sure on exact Roof Width) Edge Strobe light bar.. With Whites and Amber lenses.. All I can run for caution.. Mainly it'll be on when I'm chasing so folks see me coming when they are runnin.. Wonderin.. You think a Light bar on the back section of the roof (rear doors) would look bad? Or should I just get something to mount on the inside windshield..
I use the dash mounted twin system. It seems to work pretty well to warn people in front of you. You will get alot more visibility from behind you with the actual light bar.
Lance .. as you know our Command vehicles for EMS are an F350 superduty chassis. That being said our light bars are mounted basically at the front/rear door mark. Since the back half of the vehicle is a type of utility box and higher than the cab, the lighbar is used for forward lighting. but for rearward we still have lights on the rear of the box. the lights in the grille do more to move traffic than the light bar.
personally, I'd go more of a "low profile" look. Let me take you to GT Distributors some time. You can get one that's all LED, that would go like an "eyebrow" on the front .. inside the vehicle and light through the windshield .. then along the top edge inside the rear window, plus tail light strobes. When no lights are on, you'd look like a regular civilian truck. but lit up you'd see it just fine. I think you later might regret the light bar on top of your truck. Just my opinion.

I do installs of lighting on police, fire and ems vehicles, so I'll add my .02. I assume you are looking at the Whelen Edge products and as far as strobe or LED they are the best. The prices of LED have come down quite a bit so if you can swing it, I would go for the LED. Draws alot less current and alot less maintenance. I think that TNT is referring to the Whelen Inner Edge that mounts at the top of the windshield, inside the truck. This unit is awsome and very bright. It also hides itself well when not in use. These bars are normally vehicle specific so you would have to check to see if they make one for the Super Duty. Light bars on the roof really create alot of drag, even the Edges as narrow as they are. They also create excess wind noise inside the vehicle due to the disruption of air they cause. You have to go with what you think fits your needs.
