I have an '04 f150, I have blown the transmission(4r70w) twice in it now and now I'm pursuing changing the transmission completely. When I broke the rear drive shaft I'm sure ya'll saw the thread, it also cracked the bellhousing on the transmission to the point where tig welding isn't and option. I've heard of this happening because of the weight of the STaK box but it is heavily braced front and rear, it's not moving. What exactly is linked in the computer system between the engine and transmission? Would a new transmission controller allow me to change the transmission or would their be some disagreement in the computer system between the engine and transmission? Is their a new efi computer, pcm, for the new modular 5.4L. What other transmissions would bolt directly to my motor, what adapter plates are avaliable? Can they be custom made by someone? Ideal situation is a get a new computer for the engine and transmission to eliminate all these issues I keep having with the computer, drop in an allison 6 speed, get STaK to make me an adapter and be on my mary way, I know it isn't going to be that simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-don't factor in transfercase or the driveshafts fitting
Sounds like you need a bigger vehicle if you can't keep a trans under it. However, if your looking for a built up trans, several manuf's make them. I am kind of partial to factory tech now. I have heard of Level 10 before too.
The newer 97+ trans are computer dependant. I can't imagine the work that would be required to retro fit the 05+ trans into the electrical side. As far as adapters, they can be made if your willing to pay and can find someone willing to do the templates.
wow thats pretty odd that youve been thru 2 transmissions, how many miles are on the truck and what are you towing/hauling with it. sounds like its a case of the truck being overloaded.
