I have a 1996 F-250 and I am have some problems with it starting. Twice this week it won't start right up. I wait for the wait to start light to go off and it cranks but nothing. It does this 3 times then the next time it will start fine and runs fine. Any ideas of what this might be? I would like to try to figure this out before I get stranded somewhere.
GPR or GP's. Search this forum for "hard start" or "GPR" (Glow plug relay).
BTW: Don't try to start you truck immediately after the wait to start light goes out. Wait at least 60 seconds then try to start it. The light goes out even though the GP's are still warming-up. Watch you volt meter (Battery) it should be way to the left (~9-10 volts) while the GP's are heating. The volt meter should swing to the right after the GP's cycle off.
