Trying to convert my 9in drum brakes to disc. I bought this 9in at a junkyard, so I dont know which vehicle it came off of, from flange to flange its approx 63 in. I think it is a big ford(new style) flange. I know there are several ways of doing this. It is going on a desert truggie. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.
Width isn't that important, as long as your tires fit the track your want. The difference is in the bearing and flange on the end of the axle. I don't remember what the specs were on the bearings, but if the axle came from a truck I would expect big bearing.
When shopping for parts the big axle differences is the seal on the axle or the seal on the axle tube and is it a big bearing (about 3") or small bearing. Then axle spline.
If you have 31 splines and the seal on the axle, then that is the most popular for performance parts.
When replacing bearings, do not go Chinese. Try Federal or something band name. I got the cheaper Autozone bearings (they ended up loosening) and I had to redo them when I almost a wheel.
