I have a 1994 f350 4wd v8/ 5.8L. I started the truck two days ago and it started like normal and just started idling poorly, just rumbling like it was going to stall and then it did. I started it up again and it did the same thing. I thought maybe it should warm up, though it normally never has too. I drove it down the road hoping it would improve after giving it some gas. I drove less then a 1/4 of a mile then hit a pot hole and then it started rumbling bad and I pulled over and then it stalled. I had to tow it home it wouldnt show any signs of a spark. After looking at it today it is getting gas but I did notice no spark to plugs then no spark to ignition coil. I replaced the ignition coil and its getting spark now but it still wont start but it does a slight firing of the engine as it turns. Im not sure if not enough powers going through or what. I had the ignition module tested at autozone and they said it was fine. The distributor cap looks new and plugs look pretty good. Any ideas? Anyone? Can the idle air control valve or the tps sensor have anything to do with the problem? Can cold temps effect any of these components more then others? any help please thankyou.\Brad
Hey Brad, does it sound normal when it's cranking? Also did you pull a plug to see if it's flooded out?If the fuel pressure regulater fails it can literally drown it with fuel.If it sounds different when it's cranking lift the distributor cap off and see if the rotor is turning. It's possible it has jumped time.I had a 5.8 in a 93 E350 van act similar to your truck.Turned out that it sheared off the roll pin on the distributor drive gear.I replaced the pin and it fired right up.It's still running about 70,000 hard miles later.Hope this helps.
I pulled a plug and it was wet, I think the fuel system is fine, the tank and fuel lines have been replaced before. Im not sure if the sound is any different then normal. The truck normally starts up right away so I really never heard the truck engone turning for very long until now. But I'll check the the rotor and see if it turns.
Thanks
Brad
