I think the E81 is the body code - and that is confusing.
It should be 81 - can you double check on it?
F is the transmission, a 4 speed, either a T-98 or T-18.
24 is the rear axle, correctly listed earlier as a Spicer (Dana) 60, 4.10 ratio, with a rating of 5,200 lbs.
I only went for the trim code, since it wan't decoded originally. So.. I picked off the wrong three digit code. Since the first answer to the OP's post, I noticed no trim ref had been made, so I looked at F=Black Vinyl...I missed the E81...dumb.
Let's try this again.
E is trim code = Red Crush Vinyl and Red Cody Woven Fabric.
81 = 81B Custom Cab (only the CC's had woven fabric & vinyl seat trim).
The error made in previous post was mine, cannot blame it on FTE website glitches yesterday.

Schmee, can you double check that "E1" code? It could be an E81, as Bill has mentioned, and I agree that is the most likely possibility.
Otherwise, it could be that the E is an 8 mistamped or messed up.
Thanks for checking - and by the way, can you tell us what your truck is actually like? Color, transmission type, etc? We can confirm the accuracy of your door plate that way as well.
The doors and tags frequently get changed, and what you have could be from another truck.
Thanks!

Thanks guys, yeah that was a slip up on my part, it is an E81
Truck is pretty much originial except a few upgrades> paint is new (about 8 years old, I guess the old man that re-did was the second owner, so I am the third. My father in-law has been teaching auto body at a college here in montana for the last 33 years had he estimated the paint job to be about 6000.00 when it was new. Still has the red interior, new black dash pad, custom dash besel, original radio (still works), and original seat.
It has the 300-6 with the 4 speed tranny (extra low granny gear)
I have it listed in the classified section now so if you want to look there I have a few pictures up. Thanks again for your guys help.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I was wondering if you gentleman could please help me with my two trucks as well, please?
Both are 1966 F100's with 300 I-6 engines. There is no "F" assembly plant code listed in the 1964/72 parts book (nor the 1957/63 & 1973/79 book, either)

I went and rechecked the VIN tag and it is 100% an "F". I bought the truck as an 1966 Mercury 1/2ton. Maybe the "F" could have something to do with that? I just wanted to check the trucks authenticity. Thanks for the quick repsonse.

Anybody know if the "F" means a Merc? Also where on the frame are the vin's located?
