Anybody know of a good Mustang forum for the 87-93 years? I'd like to find something similar to this site for my 5.0 LX coupe. I bought it new in 1990 and drove it myself for the first 8 years. My son has had it since then. It has a tad over 100K on it. Drivetrain is excellent but the Canadian winters have taken their toll on the body, so it's time for a ground up restoration.
Ah yes, I bought my 88 5.0 LX new at the end of 88. It is such a late 88 model that the radiator part number is actually E9ZX. It was one of two left in town when I bought it. Mine is a white HB with a 5-speed and the other was a black auto with a sunroof.
Well, after 161,000 miles, many of the with N.O.S. , slicks and much other abuse, It still runs strong, although it burns a little oil due to it got really hot once from an early use of the N.O.S and detonation that popped a head gasket (fixed under warrany) that weakened the valve springs and piston rings a bit. Fixed that problem by going to a wet system. The original clutch lasted 130,000 hard miles. The T-5 has never broke or has the rearend.
This car really is FORD TOUGH!! All I've had to replace on it besides the head gasket is 1 waterpump, 1 starter (ended up being the ground cable), 1 clutch, 1 alternator, 1 inner tierod end, 2 heater cores (now have the police package restrictor in the heater hose) and tires, brakes, shocks and struts.
If they could get back to building cars and trucks this tough, we could really put a hurtin' on the imports!!
Anyway enough bla bla bla about my car.
Check out www.50resto.com. They have all kinds of goodies for our cars. Many are Ford parts ans some are aftermarket.
When I ordered a heater hose kit and the restrictor for the heater core, the hoses were actual Motorcraft hoses.
StangNet always treated me well, though I think they might primarily be dedicated to the '99-up models. The Box Body and classic forums were always pretty lively nonetheless, though.
Thanks for the suggestions. I joined allfordmustangs.com. Looks just like this site. No learning curve. Excellent.
50resto.com was a bad link to give me. Saw lots of good stuff, and I want it all. Only problem is I also have a `50 Merc that's going to be draining my wallet this spring/summer.
