hey everyone im new here I had a question about our truck... we have a 1988 ford pickup with 97 000 not bad eh? well anyway my husband inherited it from his Late grandfather and it only has 3 seats in it we were wondering is it possible to add an extra bench seat by having the back cut out and using the box? hmm I have no idea if this is at all possible just hoping for suggestions we are a family of four so three seats are impractical but hubby doesnt want to sell it ..he and his gramps had alot of really good memories in that truck soo well if anyone knows please let us know thanks a bunch~~
Anything is possible, Tara, but this particular notion isn't terribly practical in my opinion.
The biggest challenge would be how to weather proof the "rear" section. Since the cab and the bed are not one structural unit (the bed flexes separately from the cab) you could not tie the two sections together. Then you would have to deal with sealing the bottom of the rear section to the existing bed to prevent water from seeping in. Finally, if you did cut it up like that there would be virtually no re-sale value left.
There are some bed caps that have a seal that goes between the rear cab window and a similar sized opening in front of the cap, but it would be tough to have the rear seat passengers access the rear through that opening, although they could get there through the tailgate and then climb over the seat. You'd also have to reinforce the bed floor where the seat and seat belts bolt down.
thanks for the reply ..I know it isnt really practical its just that its kind of hard to give this truck up his grandfather hardly used this vehicle in order to keep it in shape for my husband... well I sure hate to be the one to break it to him he's gonna be heart broken thanks again for your response
Get a seal off semi truck for going into sleeper to seal everything .get a cap and cut back cab out. They have half cab caps also. There was a conversion place doing this in the late 90s . My neighbor had one. Either way is going to be alot more work. I'd get a half cab it has seats for 2 sit in bed behind cab and you remove rear window. Enter thought bed. Good luck
well the thing is this truck got one of those bad paint jobs ford recalled so it needs a new paint job .....the thing that makes this truck a beauty is the engine it is mint inside as clean as a wistle... an 88 with 97 thousand on it thats unheard of i should post picks of what lies beneath the hood its just amazing lol well thanks for all the advice i guess we have alot of thinking to do .. we cant afford two vehicles so thats not an option but thanks all of you this is great stuff to keep in mind its a heck of a truck though minus the peeling paint hahahahh ill post some picks on the week end!!
