Ditching the "tow" hooks.

I really like the looks of my X, but those hooks on the front are butt ugly and have got to go. Problem is what to do with the holes. I don't want to remove the offenders just to have an equally offending hole. Is there an aftermarket solution? I have to believe I'm not the only one wanting to remove these...

I removed mine and replaced them with Hella 550 driving lights.

Make sure you replace the bolts! They help hold the front suspension on.

They come in handy pulling out stuck Chevy's. I use them to drag large tree limbs after storms. They offer some protection for the bumper in parking garages and for small deer darting out in front of you. Here in snow country they are handy.

I remember seeing the hellas on Ken's old Excursion. They looked like they belonged there. If I did that it would be nice to relocate the hooks down lower under the bumper on the frame somewhere.

For a 2WD that will never see anything other than a gravel road, if that, that are pretty much useless appendages.

True enough! I was thinking of putting Hella's on my 05 since it is a 2WD.

I kinda like them myself. Anything to keep this thing from looking like a bus. Actually put on some chrome ones no too long ago.

XylemXorro:

Where did you get your chrome hooks, and how much were they?

I saw some on eBay about a year ago and asked the seller some questions because I had never seen them before. The seller was very evasive and never answered me if they were a Ford part, or if they were regular ones that had been chromed. All he said was "they'll fit your truck, why so many questions".

I want a set, but I don't want some cheap aftermarket ones, or ones that have a quick slapped chrome job.

Thanks,

Just put chrome one's on myself. Took about a hour some grinding was required.

Looks great though. Never will use them unless to pull a dodge out of the mud or something.

Excellent, thanks for the info.

Anybody have the part number so I can look them up on the online Ford parts sites? Or maybe a Ford part site that has a search feature by description? All the Ford parts sits I've seen requires that you know the part number.

Thanks,

I'm not really sure. I just think that shackles would look 10x better on the trucks than the tow loops that are on there now.
