Gary,
you've forgotten to tell us which tranny you have, C4, C6, AOD ????
On some trannys there is the possibility to adjust the brake bands. Did you every changed the oil and Filter?

I think sometimes you're just stuck with a lemon of a tranny, like that AOD. I've gone through 3 or 4 of them in another vehicle. I have a C6 now, which everybody loves ( not mine in particular), but I think I'd still prefer a manual tranny!
