I'm in the market for a 4x4 and am considering a Bronco. I want to lift whatever 4x4 I get, I was wondering for those of you have lifted your 92-96 Bronco's 6" have you had to do any driveshaft work or messed with it at all after you lifted it?
I have a 93 Bronco with a 6" lift. I had to add angle shims to the rear. The drive shaft was lengthened 3 inches. I run 35 BFG and blew out my carrier in the rear. I upgraded to a 9-inch with a Detroit and 4.56 gears. Those are the weak points that I have found so far.
How much did it cost to lengthen your driveshaft? is the reason you blew your carrier because of the lift/tires or were you doing something extreme at the time?
I lifted my bronco 6 inches with out doing anything to the drive shaft and I have not had any problems. I do have angle blocks but they are the stock ones that came with my bronco.
I got the drive shaft rebuilt with new all new u-joints. The machinist noticed I was running at the bottom of the play area on the shaft. So at full extension it was actually binding. I did run for two years before I found out it was a problem. The whole drive shaft overhaul was only $250. The carrier split while 4 wheeling a mountain road during an elk hunting. The trail was not extreme. The carrier could not handle 35" tires for 4 years of healthy use.
I have looked underneath my bronco and I can not see where the extra three inches would go. My friend had a chevy pick up that the driveline needed to be lengthened after the lift but you could see that it needed it. My shaft is all the way in to my transfer case. I guess they could add to the shaft.
