2001 F 150. Both heater hoses are hot so I take it the blend door is stuck open or shut, I did put a new hot/cold switch on but no help. Would like to know where this door is located and how to fix. any help?
I'm also having a blend door type issue. Although, I have been told that I need a new plenum. My cold air comes sometimes at startup, but then can here door move over to heat side. So my last payment was last month, now I being told by Ford $1000 to fix because dashboard needs to be removed to replace plenum.
Does anyone have any information on this issue that would be helpfull. I work with a very mecanical person who is willing to help me. But he is telling me that we need information on how to remove dashboard and/or how to replace a plenum. That would explain the steps.
I just had this problem fixed. No matter what position I put the heater controls, all I got was cold air. I am under warrantee (in fact I bought the seven year and this is the first time in two years that I had to go in for work) so it did not cost me anything, except since I put a remote starter on it, they tried to tell me that this caused the problem. It was the Plenum door Actuator, and they did not have to remove the dash. It took less than an hour, and everything works again. I also got Ford's standared exclamation - We have never seen this problem before, so it is not common. Well, if it is not common, then why are more of us seeing it? And why does Larry have a .pdf file on it. I'd print the file and take it to my dealer.
So what is make and model is your vehicle? I'm curious because you said dashboard did not have to be removed. I'm not hearing this for Ford 150 trucks.
I have a 99 F150 that needs a new plenum. The local dealer told me $700+ because the complete dash has to be taken out......I've just wore a coat all winter long.....it sucks.
The dash has to come out IF you replace the plenum assy. If you just need a blend door controller it can be removed from underneath the dash. Just replaced one yesterday in about an hour.
I have the same make and model of truck as everyone else here, but it was only the actuator that had to be changed, and it is about a one hour job, as it can be accessed by removing the glove box. To tell if the blend door itself is broken requires a small mirror and flashlight. It is real tough to see into the plenum, but if you can see in, then it is easy to see if the blend door is cracked or broken. Replacing this door DOES require the removal of the dash.
