I have a 73 F-100 2 wheel drive and I get a nasty vibration when leaving of the gas.
I believe it to be a driveshaft issue (balance or improper length) and not a wheel or tire issue because under acceleration it is smooth but off the pedal the whole truck shakes.
The motor and tranny have been replaced with differnent components. (It was a standard shift and now it's an automatic)
I have over 6-7" of yolk coming out of the tranny before it gets to the U joint and I notice play in the driveshaft if I grab ahold of it and shake it. (not twist it)
The U joints seem fine. If fact they look new.
What should the proper length of driveshaft be? And is there such a thing as too much yolk hanging out of the transmission?
i don't believe a vibration could be caused by incorrect lenght. 6-7" of yolk showing seems like too much, but i'm not sure and im not going out in the cold to look at mine LOL. You prolly have an imbalanced dshaft, if it's the dshaft at all. I'd bet that whomever swapped m/t did a less than par fab job on the dshaft(from experience) There's a driveline shop around here that specializes in Fords(cause of the infamous i beams) that adjusts(to correct length) and balances shafts for less than $100 for your custom application. Im sure there is someone around you who does them.
