Hi again,
I have had a lot of 80s style trucks and rangers and it seems like takeing the front bumper off is always a hudge project, the bolts always seem to strip out and spin round, short of cutting them with a torch has anyone got any tricks
we have gound a slit int the front of the bolt to hold it, tacked it to the bumper
the poblem with this is that it has a push bumper grille guard so the bolts are inside of the guard so you cant get to them just the back of the nut..
thank you
john
Can you get under the truck and get a "nut buster" on it? A tool that splits the nuts in half so you can pull them off. I've done it that way once, worked alright but a bumper is never easy.
I was thinking the same thing about the nut buster I have never used one before but I think I can get it in there
I live in Ia so these things rust on and there so hard to get off
I have air and most of the time the impact wont break them
it usaully strips the bolt where it goes in the fender ( square ) then just spins i will try the nut breaker
if your going to get one from the junk yard have them cut if off I have tried to get them off before and they can be stuburn most of the junk yard will cut them off for you for a extra fee but most of the time its worth the extra
The nuts on the carraige bolts that holt the front bumper on these trucks are installed with thread locker. If you warm them up pretty good with a propane torch they'll come off without turning the bolt head in the bumper. Just get someone to push in on the bolt head with a block of wood while you turn the nut. I've been able to get a 1/2" drive ratchet in there without trouble. It's easier if you break them loose first with a box-end or socket on a breaker bar. If they seem too tight, you probably haven't warmed them up enough.
When I went to take the front bumper off of mine, the bolt just spun inside the hole. I was able to get a pair of vise-grips on the head of the bolt and take some PB Blaster and drench the nut and bolt and work it off that way.
Hi tried again tonight got a 1/2 in impact in there 18mm impact swival
what a time never came loose ill try heating it up its also 12% here
so thats not helping

The nuts are locked with threadlocker. I don't make this stuff up. Apply heat and they'll come off without rounding the square holes in the bumper. Try it without heat at your own risk.
The nuts on the lower ball joints are the same way. Apply heat or you just turn the studs.
In both cases the yellow threadlocker brushes out of the threads rather easily after disassembly. I don't use anything but never-sieze when I put the bumper back on. I use red threadlocker on ball joint studs
sport45 is right about heat, i've done it without before, i got them off because i snapped all four bolts. try at your own risk. if you're really having problems, like they are rusted solid, personally i'd try grinding the head off the bolt. i've done it this way too. if you're careful you won't scratch up the bumper too bad, at least not past what could be polished out with some elbow grease
