Unhappy Trans Slip

1990 Ford F-150 5.8L 2wd c6 A/T 124,000
Just bought this for very cheap and the motor runs great but the trans slip when under load going up hill.
Queston is. I was talking to a friend and he said that it might be the Vacuum modulator.
Is this something worth wild to change or should I just replace the trans as already planed.

P.s. yes I changed the fluid & filter

congrats, condulences and Welcome! yes, look on the passenger side you see a round servo like thing with a vacuum line coming from it. pull the line from it and see if there is trans fluid coming from it. if so replace the modulator. when you replace it make sure and not to loose the rod that is behind the modulator when it comes out.
