a question about the e4wd

hello, I have a problem. The light for my vans electronic 4wd is flashing on and off with a 2 second delay. Also I was told the transfer case might be stuck in 4wd? How do I get it out?

No, it can't be stuck in 4WD. It's one of the sensors on the transfer case that has gone bad. Until you get a new one, just unplug the AWD computer under the driver's seat.

all AWD Aeros are stuck in 4wdr when they roll off the assembly line...designed with full time AWD 4 wdr system with 3 differentials, rear end, front end and one in transfer case

from Ford Service cd
The Electronic 4 Wheel Drive System ensures maximum vehicle traction by locking the front and rear axles together when wheel slippage occurs.

The Electronic 4 Wheel Drive System uses the following components:
1. Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module

2. Transfer Case Clutch Solenoid

3. Front Axle Speed Sensor

4. Rear Axle Speed Sensor

5. Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Indicator

6. Park/Neutral Position Switch

7. Brake On/Off (BOO) Switch

8. Front to Rear Planetary Style Differential

Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module
The Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module monitors the Front and Rear Axle Speed Sensors for tire slippage. If the slippage is low, the front and rear axle speeds will be very close, and the Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module will not engage the Transfer Case Clutch Solenoid. This allows the front and rear axles to rotate independently. If the Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module senses a significant difference in axle speeds, it will engage the Transfer Case Clutch Solenoid. The front and rear axles, locked by the Transfer Case Clutch, rotate together to allow the wheels with the greatest traction to pull the vehicle. The Transfer Case Clutch is engaged for about 3.3 seconds, and is then disengaged. The clutch will re-engage after about .5 seconds if wheel slippage continues.

The Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module also monitors the Brake On/Off (BOO) Switch and the Park/Neutral Position Switch. If the vehicle is in NEUTRAL or the brake is on, the Transfer Case Clutch will not engage or will disengage immediately. The Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module will not engage the Transfer Case Clutch above 35 mph.

Front and Rear Axle Speed Sensors
The Front and Rear Axle Speed Sensors receive power from the Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module, and send back a square wave signal proportional to the wheel speed. The Front Sensor is located at the lower gear; the Rear Sensor is at the link-ring. These sensors detect gear teeth motion.

Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Indicator
The Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Indicator receives power from the Electronic 4 Wheel Drive Module as a bulb check when the vehicle is first started and if there is a problem with the Electronic 4 Wheel Drive System. This Indicator displays flash codes that correspond to specific problems present in the Electronic 4 Wheel Drive System. The codes flash the Indicator at one cycle per second with a 3.8 second pause between codes. The code is the number of flashes before the pause. If only 1 code exists, it will be repeated. The codes flash after the bulb check.

REFERENCE :For diagnostic information, refer to «Section 07-07F » of the Service Manual.

A code 2 means the clutch coil or the clutch connector have discontinuity.

However, I'd still check the sensors.
