got a queston for ya'll,
ive been looking for a 94-97 F350 std cab long bed 4x4 5sp powerstroke on autotrader for months now and ive looked at the F250s of the same wheelbase too. so what is the difference of a F250 HD vs a F250 and a F350? does it have to do with the 97-98 light duty newer style F250?
I'm reasonably sure that Ford didn't use power stroke until 99, maybe 98. Before that it was international havester that made the engines.
Before 99 all F series used the same general frame and shape. The 99 and on superdutys (not HD, thats Chevy) have heavier frames, and probably have a heavier duty power train. Superdutys are built for working applications: towing, hauling, etc.
Then non-SD F-250 aren't as solid, but I'll bet they can get most of the same job done. Just you can't beat the crap out of em.
I've driven superdutys short distances with horse trailers, and non superdutys. They seem to handle better, and handle the load easier. I'm guesing they eat gas like crazy though. Thats my take on it.
ford started using the powerstroke in 1994.5,its still made by international they call it the navstar.in the f-250hd-f350 the only real diff is the front end and spring ratings.the f250 hd uses a split case dana 50,the f-350 uses a monobeam dana 60.the frames are the same.the f-250ld 97 up is a haritage body, just a heavyer version of a f150.96 back it was just a lighter f-250.it had a dana 44 split case and lighter springs.im puting a dana 60 under my sis 97 f250hd psd right now, springs, steering, rear blocks, then it will be a f-350.by the way,91 f-150,there is no 1998 ford hd trucks, ford skiped a year when they went to the sd,to switch over their plants for the new trucks.
