ok heres whats going on. it all started with a ticking noise, and then a fuel system too lean code. so i did some reasearch. ran the truck at full throttle down the road. it had a slight hes at the beginning then got better at around 40mph. it was pinging heavy. disconnected the mass airflow sensor plug. and drove it until the light came on. then floored it again. no ping, but still a tick. Replaced the mass airflow sensor. reset the code. drove to the bank. a few miles down the road it would idle fine, and run well whith just the slightest bit of throttle, but if you gave it anymore than that it would cut out comepletely, but still run. give it constant heavy throttle it takes off for 2 seconds, cuts out comepletly for 2 seconds, comes back instantly full throttle 2 seconds,so on and so on. i nkow this has got to be a sensor switching back and forth, but witch one? oh yeah the second code after replacing the mafs was the mafs too low reading. what would cuase the thing to consistently cut in and out like that? its like its stuck at idle and anything more is too much.97f150 62000miles
Unplug the MAF and plug it back in like before, except this time do not clear the code. Keep driving it for 20 to 50 miles. What this will do is give the PCM a chance to set another code. When you clear a code you reset the drive cycle and some monitors take longer than others to set. I would be watching the TPS and IAC.
i had to drive it to work today. that sucked. anyways i never reset the code. it still has the same problem. i work at CHRYSLER HA! HA! as a budding technitian. one of my freinds who is a senior tech and is great at driveability, and diagnostics is going to look at it with me. he says that ford reconfigured their mafs for those year models and i may have to flash update the pcm. but we havent had time to run any tests on the tps, egr, or vacuum leaks, but im sure theres no leaks, i did the throttle boby cleaner all over the vacuum lines test to no avail. i hope its not the converter kicking out at low rpm. oh well whatr ya gonna do? these things happen.
