which tranny???
so my tranny fluid is a little low, and i was gonna throw 80 weight in there but figured i'd check the book to make sure. well it says that if you have a mitsubishi to use 80 weight and if its a mazda to use atf. well which tranny do i have? how can i tell? its a 92 ranger 4.0l 4x4 5spd.

yea i was doing shock work and breaks today and pulled the plug on the tranny and i couldn't feel any fluid when i put my little finger in there, although i couldn't get in in real far but i'd still like to add a little. should i just put atf in there and assume i have the mazda tranny andforget about it? or should i do some searchin to figure for sure?

Tiggie's correct, you have the M5OD, which takes ATF. The ONLY engine that used the Mitsubishi FM146 after 1988 (when the M5 was introduced) was the 2.9l. FWIW Tiggie, the Toyo Kogyo TK5 was replaced by the M5, Toyo Kogyo is a Mazda industrial devision, in fact Haynes manuals, as well as original owners manuals, refer to the Toyo as a Mazda trans.
