Well I have a question on an old topic: 6 to 12 volt conversion. I have a 55 f100 that I want to change over to12 v. I read a lot of emails all saying it’s a simple one or two day process but I am still in the dark. I still haven’t found a set of detail directions on how to convert to 12v. Does anyone know of any instructions or point in the right direction?

I have a Y- block and don’t plan on adding a lot of accessories except a cd player and a couple of speakers. It has an electric wiper motor and turn signals (which I assume were after market?).

I will use the same 6v starter, and will switch out the starter solenoid, bulbs, wiper and fan motors, and ign coil. I will add a new wiring harness (any suggestions), 12v regulator, ballast resister (for dis points), volt drop regulator (for dash gauges), 12v battery and Ford alternator (how does the alt get hooked up). And how does one align a new (alternator) pulley to the rest of the engine pulleys? Is eyeballing it good enough?
Do I need to replace the ign switch (push button and key), headlight switch?
Any Help you can offer would be great! Thanks so much!
I have a '55 F-250 and did the conversion. I went thru Sac Vintage Ford and told them what I wanted to do. They suggested a '56 wiring harness. Change all of the bulbs and the wiper motor, heater motor, coil etc... If you talk to them, they will set you up. It's not that hard to do. I'm color blind and I needed a little help figuring out what color was what, but they can send you either the regular rubber insulated or the cloth covered rubber insulated. The turn signals should be factory, I believe. Mine are. They might have been an option though. If you have the bulky unit strapped to the steering column, it was added later. Look under that and you might have originals that went bad and were easily replaced with that unit.
I have the same with execption of using a 12v Delco unit. I did use a 56' head light switch as the 55' unit is labeled 6v. Ignition and starter switch are OK to use as is.
