What is the differnce in hp from the 2000-2003 automatic trucks? Like mine is a 2000 and its 225 or 235 but did ford add more stock over the next 2 years on the auto's?
I dont know about a HP difference. I do know that the 01's and earlier had Forged rods, and the 02's and up have powdered metal rods that can only handle 400 RWHP which i dont know why ford did that.
Im pretty sure. I dont know how to tell by taking off the valve cover. Someone with more diesel experience than me should be able to tell ya. WHERES KRIS??
2000 and down had Forged rods, 2001 and up had PMR's... PMR's can go a bit over 400hp with the newer tunes...
The reason Ford did it is two fold, they are lighter and quieter... And they are somewhat cheaper... There is nothing wrong with PMR rods, they just have to be redizigned...Ford used (or international) the same tooling to save money and they hold just fine a stock power levels... The 6.0 comes with PMR's and can hold over 700hp...
As far as the HP rating... there all the same parts from 2000 up, so if your going to chip it... it doesnt matter, they just added a little in 2002 and again in 2003 to keep up with Dodge and Chevy...
Just to add something for clarification. The cutoff date between forged and pm rods was supposedly Oct. 20, 2000 yet there are a lot of forged rod engines manufactured after that. I assume the date is when they switched the rod manufacturing process, and until the inventory of forged rods was depleted there were engines after that date that have them.
Also, the date is not the build date of your truck, but the build date of the motor.
