hey guys i need help with my 85 again. question number 1 does the early 80's bronco's come with a stock 33 gallon tank or is that an aftermarket thing. 2 whenever the gas gauge reads emoty i fill the tank and only put in about 17-20 gallons. it also fluctuates unpredictably through the whole use of the full tank. my question for this is, is there something wrong with my sending unit that it reads funny, does my bronco only hold 20 gallons of fuel, what would cause gasoline to not flowinto the tank steadily while filling causing it to back up and spill out. help
I can't really talk about the early 80's Bronco's but I wouldn't think that Ford would put a little 20 gallon tank in them but I may be wrong. Someone else will let you know. My sending unit went out in mine and this corrected the misreading through the tank. Lastly, there are a couple of gas stations around here that have more pump pressure and will cause mine to spew out also.
"I wouldn't think that Ford would put a little 20 gallon tank in them "
I had a 72 F100 with a 390, the fuel tank was behind the seat and held about 18 gallons. Cruising range was about the same as my Harley. Why do you think that you see so many F100's of that era with that silver door riveted on the side of the bed? It's for an aftermarket auxiliary tank.
My 86 has the same fuel gage flutters as you described above. I have not had this truck very long so I was concerned. One night I drove it 60 miles after it hit E. I was able to put 22.5 in it. so I am guessing it is 25 as the book says.
