General electric fuel pump questions

Ok I may just need a good pinch to wake me up from dreaming- My truck (01 F150) quit running, and I'm about 99% sure it's the fuel pump, because you could always hear it, but now you can't- well, i left it a little low last time I parked it (don't drive it much these days) out in the yard and the same day went out and it wouldn't start. Cranks like it should but won't fire, just all of a sudden yesterday. It was below E(didn't realize it was that low from the last time I drove it) it is about 5* here now (and well below overnight) is there any chance that the fuel pump just froze up? If I added a few gallons of warm(room temp) gas could that fix my problem? or is this all wishful thinking. This is my first and only electric fuel pump issue so this is all new to me TIA

It's possible and worth a shot. Add a bottle of alcohol as well to help disipate any moisture in the tank.
A good rule of thumb on any EFI vehicle, never go below 1/4 tank. The gas surrounding the pump keeps it cool and when you get low on fuel, the pump runs hot and shortens it's lifespan.

yeah i know about the 1/4 tank thing, and I thought it had more than what it did, but clearly I was wrong. FYI I had a blown fuel pump fuse. I've never seen or heard of that before but hey i guess that is what they are there for! truck is back to running.

I don't buy the 1/4 tank "rule". As long as fuel is flowing through the pump, it will be sufficiently cooled. External fuel pumps are not immersed in fuel and they seem to make out all right.

They get air blown past them when driving.

Riiiiight. The external pump on my truck has a foam piece around it completely between the pump and the sleeve mount, that actually extended past the ends of the barrel of the pump. The fuel cools a fuel pump, not its surroundings.
