Timing Issues 96 Ranger 2.3
give more gas to it. Will still go 80 MPH. Wants to stall out when I engage in gear etc....(Manual Tran) I purchased the truck a few weeks ago and it had just broke the timing belt. I replaced. 120 K miles
ANYWAY....... It seems like it is off a tooth. I have the Crank pulley at TDC and I have the cam sproket properly alligned using (Triangle or diamond) I did not mess with the timing mark on the oil pump as I forgot. But I am of the school of thought that it doesn't really matter. I rechecked the belt position after 2 revolutions ands now and the relationship betweeen the Crank pulley at TDC and the timing mark on Cam pulley is good. Does the oil pulley really matter?
It certainly isn't that hard to redo but I can't visualise why the Oil pump pulley is needed. (Belt has good tension)
My next thought is the IAC valve but I don't know if that affects power as well as the idle?
The full story with the truck was that it had overheated for the previous owner and he cracked the head. I had to replace head. When I initially dissaseembled there was some coolany oil mixture up in the intake and throttle body. so maybe IAC got damaged? WIld thought is Cat Converter. I thought it would dry out or burn off. Ive put 500 miles on truck and idle is still fairly rough and power is of by 10 -15%
