My main reason that I am going through this whole ordeal is that I drive this 3 thousand dollar car 80 percent of the time because of how bad my truck is. I was told that I would get approx 15mpg's with my sd when I got it. Not the case. My truck only has 7k miles reg oil changes and tires are inflated. I drive this truck like a baby. Never rev past 2k rpm's. Like I said before I thought I was going to make a ton of money on the side due to the winter we had prior to the purchase and these past 2 years I only plowed maybe 10 times due to the lack of snow.
I LOVE my truck but it just costs alot to drive. What do you think I would be able to sell my truck outright for.....
05 f-250 black 4x4 xlt supercab fx4 loaded 38,000 sticker with a 8.5 ft v blade western ultramount with 7500 miles?
It just makes me sick I drive my beater alot more than my baby and would like to have one vehicle to do everything that I want.
you've got 7k miles on a 2 year old truck, 7000/10mpg = 700 gals / 2 years = 350 gals x 3 bucks a gallon = $1050 a year in gas for the truck
you said you're in your other car 80% of the time, that would be roughly 14000 miles a year. (based on the 3500 yr in truck) I checked out a 1994 corrolla and it gets about 30 mpg.
14000 / 30 mpg = 466 gals a year x $3.00 a gal = $1398 a year in gas for the car

I'd keep the truck
i agree...keep the truck and stop having your double mochachino at Starbucks
Why not just sell the truck and the car-get something that you would want to drive every day that gets good milage..?? Sounds like you don't really need a truck-maybe get a beater with a snow plow for $4k or something.

Alright.....We just got to the crux of the matter.........And I understand your feelings on this.....You've got this gorgeous truck sitting around while you drive your "beater" to and from work.....and instead of showing off the beast, your puttering around in a rice-burner....being sensible on gas, but not really turning heads.......
I'm gonna help you out, man.....I'm going to put you into a truck that gets pretty good mileage, is beautiful, and which will make you a little money on the side when the snow gets deep.......First let's sell your old truck......
-$24,250 trade-in....Maybe $500 or $600 more if you have running boards, good bedliner, etc.....which you didn't mention.
-$27,875 retail.....(again, maybe $500 or $600 more with the boards and liner)......You sell it outright, and this is a reasonable price to expect with your package.
-$24,700 on-the-hoof......AND I put in a trailer/towing/camper package for you! Barely broke-in at that mileage. Dependable, sharp, great work truck, and a head-turner. You can easily expect 15 to 17mpg around town, commuting, mix of highway and town.......AND, if you cruise instead of speed on the highways.......20mpg or above on the highway. The town mpg is solid and expected......I average 19 or 20 on mine on the highway, but I've gotten 21mpg....and my all-time highest is 24mpg.
Having sold my 99 7.3 CC 4X Lariat, that got 19+mpg,,,, NOW even if it got only 12 and sat the rest of the time, KEEP IT. I justified mine saying I didn't drive it enough, it is killing it sitting there, not being driven,,,,, drive it when ya drive it, and ENJOY it when ya do, but don't sell it, ya already took the hit, your not gonna make your money back from buyin it. And I STILL drive my old "beaters" (my 66, and 77) more than I do my new one.
Kepp it!!
Even though he's trying to sell his truck I think cpmd makes a good point.
Don't be afraid of a well-kept F250 PowerStroke with somewhat higher mileage. You can get some incredible values for your dollar and get into a diesel if you get something 3-4 years old.
You might be a little spoiled with an '05, but open up your options a little and look at a '01 - '02 if you want a 7.3L, or like I did, look at an '03 - '04 6.0L. My '03 with the 6.0L has 95K miles on it with no problems, that speaks to the general reliability of the earlier 6.0's, and if you think a truck with 95K miles is a beater, look at the pics in my gallery when I picked it up at the used dealer.
Seriously. Mine's a 2000...not a 2002. I bought mine with 40000 on the OD and it now has 74000.
I basically just put the lad together a package to illustrate what a fine, kick-a$$ truck he could get that's reasonably priced that's also a head-turner.......AND....maybe a little cheaper than his current truck and a LOT more truck in the bargain. The better gas mileage is a given....and even the 6.0L owners admit to the 7.3L having a little better mileage.
The prices I quoted were straight out of my bank's "blue-book" section online......Based on the parameters for his truck, and I priced a 7.3L with a similar package, with even more options included.
Basically I'm advising him what to be On-The-Lookout for......I was just trying to be like a car-lot salesman.......
Haha! I hear ya! BTW, that's a good package for him to look out for.
My one worry is that he may be "upside down" on his truck right now financially.
OFFTOPIC question for you cmpd: How does your camper ride? My brother-in-law has a '95 F350, with a smaller camper than yours (his will fit in his long bed and the tailgate will close), and while it was ok, he finally put Firestone airbags on the rear to help level it back out, and now it seems to ride much better.
diesel maintanence in the end is not as much. chance oil about half as often. no plugs, plug wires, distributor, nothing. if a diesel won't run, you usually have a bad problem. i have got 17 mpg around town with my 97 auto 7.3. my dad got (untill the low sulfer fuel) about 19 mpg round town w/ 6 sp. 7.3 late 99.maintenance is more when it must be done, but in the long run, much less of it. i'd try to find a good 99.5-03 7.3 with 80-100000 miles.

What's been your experience with a larger camper?
tnx,

I don't have airbags on mine. The camper loaded is about 2300lb......Not TOOOOO bad, but still a good amount of weight. It drives great with no airbags. I DO, however, feel the need for them when I drive down some of the rough-terrain back roads on Portsmouth Island, and the truck bounces left to right. Have to take it slow, but you can really feel the springs and shocks struggling to keep the truck from this "bounce". I'd get the airbags no matter which truck (250, 350, whatever) you have. I just haven't put them on mine yet (I'm a notorious procrastinator).
That's the only time, though, that I run into an issue.......On the broken terrain. The roadway, even a road with some bumps, is no problem.
