i have an '86 f-250 2 wheel drive with a 351w and a granny four speed. i have a considerable amount of trouble shifting into 3rd gear (low being 1st) coming from 2nd and 4th. it just won't go in. could it be the wrong gear oil in the tranny or a blown syncro?

Sounds like a blown syncro to me. If it was hard to engage in all 4 gears, that could be an oiling problem, but if it's hard to shift into just 1 particular gear, it's the 3rd gear syncro.

I'd have to agree, probably the synchro. try shifting when the truck is turned off, nice and easy. clutch in, and go through the gears nice and slowly, second to fourth, fourth to second, then try third. if third is noticably more difficult, then you're probably dealing with a bad synchro. don't force it into gear, especially not moving, its hard on the tranny, and you don't want to break it any more

ive got a 1983 ford f100 with a 300 i6 auto trans and when its idleing the tranny hums it only does it while its ideling and coming out of 1st gear it sounds like its coming from the tourqe convert any1 know whats wrong?
