In my opinion, yes. Just the same as a rebuilt engine, you are breaking in this new engine. I would go a little longer than 500 miles. Probably change it around 1500 to 2000 miles, but no more than that.
I would do what the owners manual says for the first one. They probably use a special oil or additive for breakin and they want it out of there at a certain time..
Hey everyone. First new vehicle here. Is it necessary to change the oil after the first 500 miles?
I know to do this when an engine is rebuilt, but do I need to do it with my new truck? 2007 / F350 / 6.0
Thanks,
Bob
Hi Bob, I am a BOB as well!!!
where did you get the truck?
I bought mine used and I change it with Shell Rottella T 5W-40 oil from Walmart
you can get their regular 15W-40 and the filter as well!!!
Take if from a Truck Fleet manager of 30 years ME...If its a new truck from the factory you do NOT need to change oil any different than what the manual recommends. We never changed the first oil change at less than 3,000 miles and NEVER in 30 years wore out an engine. Eveything else falls apart first...lol. NOW if its a rebuid...ya change it at 500 to 700 miles because rebuilders are NOT Clean like the factory assembly is.
Somebody want to show me an engine that's puked from oil changes at 2,000 miles over an extended period or how Ford is going to prove oil-related failure on 2000 mile oil changes?
