My 99 Navi has been getting progressively worse with converter lock decisions. Has any one else experienced these symtoms?
1. Locking up as early as 30-35 mph.
2. Under agressive accelaration locking up in 2nd gear. (not really a problem but noticeable)
3. With O/D off and light acceleration, jumps in them right back out as soon as you ease off throttle. 30-45 mph. (around town type of driving)
There may be a couple others. Other than this the trans is rock solid. Shift points seem to be on time and no shuddering. I keep the O/D off for city driving so I dont lug the engine because it will shift into O/D and lock up as early as 45 mph. I have heard that you can flash the ECM to remedy this. But I have also heard that if you lose power then the problem returns and that the adaptive learning strategy will cancel the flash over a period of time. Any insight into this will be helpful.
hello,i'm having a the same problem, but mine is doing at constant throttle.with the overdrive on or off.from speeds of 25 to 65.over 65 it does not seem to unlock eratically.reading many of these posts it could be the tcc control inside the pan.i guess i will start there.hope this helps!!
Please let me know what you find. I carried this thread over to the transmission section and got good responses. Search for "Need help with E4OD convertor lock up". I am sure we are not the only ones with this problem. And be sure to let me know what you find out.
hello, the only thing i have found is. now that it is above 35 degrees here in wisconsin my truck has stopped doing it.i think i'm just going to leave it alone for know.sorry i do not have any more info for you.
I would be very careful, it could simply be the torque converter. I waited too long and it puked into my tranny and instead of a $800 bill to replace the converter, I wound up paying $1800 for the rebuild. My mechanic showed me how great the tranny was except for all the nifty little piece from the converter in it.
If your due a fluid change, check the pickup for excessive filings or a clogged filter.
