Differential info

Hi , I have a 1967 Ford pickup . My son recently screwed up
the spider gears in the rear end . He brought home a complete
rear end that he cut out of a 1975 model ( I think ) . I'm trying
to get some info on it before I take it apart as I'm planning on
getting a locker and rebuilding my old one sometime soon so I'm
trying to see if want to put it in my truck or just wait until I get the
old one rebuilt . Does anyone know how to read the tag or maybe a
website that shows how to read it ? It reads like this as best as I can
tell . WDM CJ 8LB 75 9 356A . I'd appreciate any help with this .

Thanks again ,

Bill

Welcome to (FTE)! Bill

The 75 housing will be wider, also if the 75 was from an Inline 6 or small block
it should be 28 spline, if it is 2wd, this has been my finding in the past! The
hogs head should work.

To answer your question :
from the looks of your info that is a 2.75 rear .
I don't know of any other axle ratio that ends in 75.

It should have read
WDM - CJ 8L8
2.75 9 356A

scroll to the bottom for axle Id tag info.

Now I'm intrigued. Here is some more info. Incedentally, my '72 F100 has the 9 3/8" limieted rear diff in it.

Doesn't the "L" in 8LB indicate a locked rear end?????

also on the right side axle tube close to the center chunk facing the rear the ratio is stamped into the tube.

That 8LB might actually be an 8L8 which is the casting date for the axle/diff

November 8th 1968 (78,88)

Thanks for all the help , looks like I have a 2.75 . A little too high of a gear for
my truck . I guess I'll put it up for sale and rebuild the one I have with a locker .

Thanks again

Don't price it too high, 2.75s are hard to give away.

Let's just say that guys attending the large swap meets are not lined up looking for that ratio. IMHO

Around here, most of the circle burners will go $50.00 on it just to have the case and carrier, most run either a spool or a mini spool, so the condition of the spiders doesn't really matter....
