A Ford Service Manager told me that flash 06e17 will take care of the strong exhaust smell in the cab. Any truth in this ? 2004 CC 4x2 F-250. July 03 engine build date
I don't think that a PCM reflash is going to do much for an exhaust smell in the cab. It won't change the fact the the exhaust has to exit the rear of the vehicle via the exhaust system. I'm with the y-pipe leak also.
I have noticed a strong exhaust smell in the cab of my truck only in the morning at start up.Could this be the Y pipe?Is it covered in the 100,000 mile waranty?
I had the same smell in the morning 5 months ago, it was the y-pipe and yes it is covered. Just have to pay the 100 deductable and wait for it to get done. They had to order mine and truck was in shop for 4 days, they showed one in stock on computer so tech took my truck apart and later learned no part. Hey poop happens, otherwise I love the truck and the diesel guy I use is the man!!
Make sure that the smell is not coming from other vehicles on the road guys. What I have found, after reading these forums and becoming "aware of the diesel smell in the cab issues", is that smells outside the vehicle will certainly come inside if the climate control is active. Try turning off the heater/air conditioner system, and see if the smell goes away. If not, then the problem is probably the y pipe addressed earlier.

uummm ok. like they say you cant fix stupid. find another dealer. if these guys are saying this, i wonder if they rotate tires by lifting the truck and spinning them 360 degrees. run man. run fast and hard.
Ok guys thanks for the info. Took the truck in this morning. Told them what was happening in regard to the smell in the cab. Wasn't overly impressed with their thoughts on the problem! We'll see what the find out and I'll let ya all know. 2004 F-250 CC 4x2
