My 2006 Super Duty is an XL model, and, though pretty well equipped, it is somewhat bare bones...not a real issue, but I am trying to spiff it up some.
Anyway, I purchased a power window kit made specifically for these trucks. It comes with a motor, regulator, wiring and switches...
Has anyone had any experience installing these? Does not look too hard, but I would like to know if there are any "surprises" in my future...thanks
Please post a review of the kit when you finish. I also have a 06 stripper which is what I wanted but I cant reach the passenger window crank with my foot on the clutch. Where did you get the kit and hw much$.
Thanks
I got mine for exactly that reason...I can't reach the passanger side crank handle.
I don't remember the name, but I'll look. I think the whole deal was about $250 or there abouts...I have had the kit ablut a month and I am waiting for warmer weather to do the install.
I bought my XL with the stipulation that the dealer have power windows & locks installed. While the passenger switches turned out OK, I'm not real happy with the add-on switch panel for the driver's door and would like to find a better fitting/looking one.
I put XLT door panels in my XL....Bought em on Ebay for $135.00 got em in, made stainless steel (10ga.) covers for the old switch plates and then covered em.... Then all you gotta do is drill the hole for the winder crank.
I had already installed power locks...not too bad a job. I did NOT install an inside switch...the remote keyless entry fob is all that I use. I do intend to put in an interior power lock switch when I have the doors apart to install the power window units.
I really do like the XLT interior door panels...might look for some.
I was told be the place I bought the power window kit from that the factory window switches will NOT work because of the way they are integrated into the wiring harness. I suspect that a person with a great electronics ability could work around that...I donno..
I listed the link from where I bought my power window kit....the site has install instructions for various models...pretty informative.
Autoloc makes special power window switches that you might be able to use.
Instead of installing switches and trying to figure out what to do about the window cranks, these switches use the window cranks. The crank sits level. You push it up, the window goes up. Push it down, the window goes down.
The manual locks bug me the most right now. Maybe I'll set up those first and when I figure out how many pieces I need to do power windows, I'll spring for the new door panels etc. I really want it to look OEM. Just like an XLT. I'm looking forward to seeing the install writeup and finished pics.
