I have a 95 5.8 that whenever she is warmed up she stalls when I put it into reverse. They only time she won't is when the idle is high (just started, still cold etc.) What could this be. I asked a mechanic around the corner from my house and he said "If it only happens when you put it in reverse, then don't worry about it." This is the same mechanic who read the codes form my check engine light and said he reset it and it didn't come back on so it wasn't a big deal. I asked him what the read out said and he said that the computer said I had three sensors out....he of course wouldn't tell me what they were.
Also, I saw on here before that you can check the codes from the computer without a reader...at least I thouhgt I read that before. Is this possible? I have a feeling my check engine light will come back on soon.
Depending on the ecu type you can pull what are called blink codes. On my eec-IV system I can run a jumper wire to 2 different terminals on my computer hook up harness with the key off. turn the key on and the ecu will go into self dianostic mode. Then the check engine light will start to blink. you count the # of times the light blinks. The first code will always be a code 111, this is a generic code and will always show up every time the codes are pulled, it means nothing, but is there to let you know the diagnostics are working. All other codes will be three digit codes always. there will be fast blinks for each # then a slight pause, count the fast blinks then lay the #'s out in order and that will be your code(3 pause 1 pause 2 pause - example) Usually there will be another light blink in between code sequences. You need to find out what ecu system version you have, should be eec-IV but depending on the time of year your bronco was built could be obd-II. If it's the latter you'll need a scan tool. How much did the mech. charge to plug up to the truck? You can get a decent obd-II scanner for around $200-300. If you can remember where the mech was when he plugged into your ride then you can tell what system is your truck. If he connected under dash obd-II, under hood eec system. You can get a scanner that will read the older systems (pre-obd-II) look up auto x ray on the net. there 4000,5000,and 6000 series will read both. I love my 6000, but these start at $400 and go up. I made the investment cause it'll hook to all the big 3's vehicles, aisian, and european. I got tired of paying my vw dealer $100 a pop just to find out what codes my wifes car was throwing. Just my thoughts but it's a good investment, there are also many other brands with many different price ranges. GL ANG
Try running a can of Seafoam through it also. This stuff cleans the crud buildup in your engine. Do a search on this forum about the stuff and should gets some hits and hints.
