i own a 94 f150 with the I6.....2wd....5 speed manual......recently my tranny started leaking. im pretty sure its not the 3 plugs up by the shifter that every one says goes.......will i b able to change the oil seal with in a days time at my house........i got jacks tools compressor.....i just never ripped apart a tranny
where is it leaking from? if it is the front then its the front seal. if it is from the top then it will be the shift rail plugs. if it is from the rear then it is the rear seal and that is the easiest. clean off the trans and drive it a little while then recheck for leaks to pinpoint its location.
Remember the leak from the 3 plugs will run down the rear seal...so it can give the impression that seal is going bad instead.
You can quite easily do it in a day however...the worst part is getting it out of and back into the truck. Once it's up on a counter, jack, etc, where you can work on it, the rest is cake. Take your time, double check everything, etc.
That is why I suggest cleaning the trans. In a fullsize you can wedge the trans down enough to sneak them in without removal if I remember right. you just need to watch the clearance in the engine bay with the fan and shroud and the fluid that will run out the tailshaft.
