Without you all of you on here, I would be no where with my project. I just can't believe they increased the price by that much. I don't mind paying a premium, but I look at it this way. If I was down to my last 12 oz strip steak and after seeing it was the last one I went out and told my customer his steak now was going to be 169.00 instead of 16.99 do you think he would be coming back? I realize that I am fortunate to find it, but 150.00. I would not have been upset at 80.00 plus. I guess I wish the lady would not have told me they originally sold them for 15.00.

I need it so if I cant get it somewhere else I will pay it, bottom line.

Slinkin' back in with an opinion. I was in Carpenter's place in June 2004. It's just up the road from Lowes Motor Speedway.

I bought a bunch of stuff for my 63 Galaxies, and a wood bed kit for a pals 54 F100. The invoice was printed out by a computer...meaning the lady who works there looked at the system to get the price. She didn't get it from the tooth fairy!

But all good things must end. It's not uncommon for Ford Obsolete stores to raise the price when only one or two parts remain.

cbfomoco,

The listing is right here in my city. He owns a service station here in town. I left him my number and wrote his down. I will visit him first thing in the morning to see if he has one. If so I will cancel this order. Thanks for the help I must have missed it when going through the tranny section last night.

The key difference is that this is the last ever NOS retainer, but the butcher will have more steaks tomorrow. Sounds like between the people on the forum, you're covered for a good used one.

Seems like you'll need some rear bearing shims; I would guess you need to re-shim the mainshaft if you change these? It would seem to set the end-thrust play.

The last one CARPENTER has... one thing about NOS parts, they keep turning up in old warehouses and hoarder's collections so you never know when they will really run out. That butcher is down to his last steak... until someone finds another cow.
By Carpenter's way of recconing my panel truck is now worth 200K since it's the last one I have.

I'm very local to Carpenter's, and I think they're high anyway. One time I bought several parts there and I was in need of one thing they didn't have in stock. The helpful guy there told me about Joblots, and when I looked them up, that was the last time I bought anything from Carpenter's. Joblots is considerably cheaper on several items.

AX is absolutely correct. I just purchased an old warehouse full of crap. Some of this crap is a bunch of NOS Briggs and Stratton and Techumsa small engine parts, still in the boxes. Having spent some time recently working on a 1965 3hpp Briggs engine, I know how hard parts for older small engines can be to find. Almost as bad as parts for these old trucks. As a service to mankind and owners of old small enignes everywhere, I will commit right here and now, not to go Dennis Carpenter and sell the last one of each part for 10 times the asking price of the rest of them.

I don't think since it's their last one it's worth 10 times the regular price. Sounds like price gouging to me. I will also avoid Dennis Carpenter parts if I can get it somewhere else....

Thanks again to one of our own on FTE(cbfomoco), I found one on that lot of transimissions on epay. Paul Pratt has several of the 59T7006 trannys in the lot he has listed on ebay if anyone is interest I can send his number. He let me take one off the back of one of the trannys and sold it to me for $65.00. I was honest with him on the price carpenters wanted. I am not upset about paying 65.00 and I would not been upset at carpenters for pay this amount, but I definitely feel they will gouge us if they can. I don't want to do business like that or with people who are like that.
Just my feelings.

Thanks again everyone. I will get my engine mounted this weekend. I have to get a part number for the seal. I have this one soaking so maybe i will be able to read it once clean. Numberdummy or duller let me know if you have that seal number

Well, I thought I had the right part. The one I have is about half an inch tall than the original. The holes are the same, the seal size is the same, but it has half an inch longer base than the one I have. So if anyone pulls one off, I am still interested in it. Thanks Kevin

Dang Kevin,

you're having a heck of a time. Aren't these old trucks great? There's not too many other hobbies out there that can be this frustrating.

woohoo

The part you have should work fine. The original part must have been from a F-3 which is 01Y-7085-A but you have the correct one for your truck. I checked and all the engine/tranny mount parts are the same. The tranny crossmember is also the same from the F-3 to F-6 trucks. I don't know what seal you are refering to?

The seal mounts in the mount itself in the circular hole. It holds in differential fluid. I found the part number for that at Story's in a reference book.
