it is a 95 Xlt 302 auto. the cruise dosen't work. I can,t find the factory recall repair, and do not have a wiring diagram to see if it is even getting power. can anyone help me out ?
One of the biggest problems I have seen is with the brake cut off switch. There is a little plastic wedge on the brake pedal up under the dash.
When your foot is "off" the brake the plastic wedge pushes on a push button switch, when you put your foot on the brake it moves the wedge off the push button switch. The plastic wedge can move so the plastic wedge is not pushing on the switch making your cruise think your foot is on the brake so the cruise will not turn on. Adjust that plastic wedge so it pushes the button and your cruise should work again.
The switch could be bad, you may have a bad connection in the steering column or a bunch of other problems but, maybe you will get lucky.
Any Ford Dealership will be able to get the recall information for you and it only takes about 5 minutes to perform depending on how busy they are.
1. Does your horn work? Is your airbag light flashing? I ask this because all these items go through the Clock spring behind the steering wheel and could be the cause of your cruise troubles.
2. Is your speedometer working? Does your trans shift weirdly? Is your ABS light flashing? I ask this as these work with the ABS/speed sensor in the rearend and it could cause this also.
3. Do you have brake lights? Check the switch on the pedal lever assembly. Also the Multifunction/turn signal switch on the column can cause this.
If your brake lights are working, I do not think the brake switch will be the issue.
i have noticed that when the clock spring assembly starts to go bad, the first wire to break is usually for the cruise. but i would still check all other variables before diving into the clock spring. it could be something as simple as a blown fuse.

My other truck a 93 with a 300 and an auto tranie is doing some of this. A couple of months ago the sis was driveng and said there was a pop and the abs light started flashing. Then the next time she tryed the cruse it would not work. I changed the sensor on the rear end and changed the fuse. that lasted about 5 min. Then later the break lights did not want to work. So any ideas? I would like to get the cruse working again. I also know that our mech found something under the truck that hae had to wire around for the light to work again. I think they changes the stop light switch too. Is the the cruse module out on the fender well? Also I dont think the truck has an air bag. Thanks
the clock spring assembly is what ford calls the wiring setup under the steering wheel. the ribbon wire looks like a clock spring inside the housing. it is this assembly that rotates back and forth when you turn the steering wheel.after a few years, the ribbon wire starts to break form the constant back and forth movement.
because of all the stuff that is in the steering wheel pad now days, there is not enough room to use the button spring contacts like the older non airbag trucks had.
