Block Heater ?...
I have the 4.6L with 187K....it's cold here (Chicago) and my truck spends 100% of her time outside (unless she gets a bath at my parents place---heated garage.....
). Between less emissions, better gass milage, easier starts, and, most importantly, heat in fewer than 15 min, I'm looking into block heaters...
From what I understand there are the magnet kind (which my dad has used and said don't work), the oil kind (replace the dipstick) and the coolant kind (heats and circulates the coolant.
Any thoughts on the best one? It seems I hear alot about the coolant ones...
How long do you guys plug yours in for? I have been reading anywhere from anhour to all night...
Anyone hook up a couple spare batteries and an invertor incase you can't get a house line? I'm just going to assume it requires WAY to much juice, but hey...might as well ask...
And here's the best one...where have you guys found your block heaters? My cousin's getting the dealer price right now, but I'm figuring they are going to be more expensive then SOMEPLACE else. The local conglomerates (auto zone and pep boys) don't have them....the few minutes i spent on ebay only resulted in diseal block heaters...
Any thoughts?
Thanks for the help!!!!
Cheers,
AJ
