Front Calipers

I had new brake pads and rotors installed on my truck last month. The pads kept squeaking while braking and also while driving. The calipers were not sticking. The pads were replaced under warranty but started doing it again. Yesterday the shop replaced the regular pads under warranty, but they installed the expensive ceramic pads (at their expense). These seem to work great, better pedal feel and no squeaking. My question is about the calipers. They look original, but do not leak or stick. What are the chances of one starting to leak at 105K, do these last a long time? If one leaks and gets the ceramic pad wet, will it be ruined? These pads would be costly to replace.

I used the ceramic pads and have had no problems at all with them. I had to replace my calipers at about 130,000 miles and then again last month at 230,000 miles. Both times, my passenger side caliper locked up. I am not real hard on my brakes but I also don't baby them either. I was also told by my brake guy that with the metalic pads, you need to kind of go easy on them for the first few hundred miles so that they harden properly. Whether this is true or not, I went easy on them just in case.

Hope this helps.

If your calipers are that old I'd replace them personally. The phenolic pistons are fond of sticking with high mileage.

I will replace them at the next brake job. That may be a while with the ceramics though.

when you do service your brakes again get the steel piston calipers instead. NAPA has them, not sure what the part# is anymore though.
