Power Stroked Econoline
The good news - 1/4 tank of gas, sitting somewhere for 2 months (only 11 miles on the odometer so couldn't have gone far), the coldest day of the year (it was 2 degrees F this morning), and it started right up!!!! A good omen I hope. I went straight to the gas station, put in 10 ounces of Power Service (white) and filled her up.
The not so good news - I opened the hood, just had to see how that diesel looked, man it's packed tighter than my previous V10 gasser. Planning ahead I tried to find the oil filter. It's right on top jsut like the book says. Looks like you can barely get in to loosen up the top of the filter housing- how the heck to you get the filter out of there?
Also, there are no "Power Stroke" emblems - another penny wise cost save by Ford no doubt. Where can I get some, sure I want to advertise what's under the hood.
One last question, I ordered it with the engine block heater. The manual says to plug it in when the temp's get below 20F, but doesn't say anything aboout where it is. I'm expecting to see a pig tail sticking out somewhere, but can't seem to locate it. Any pointers where this thing is on an Econoline?
Thanks to all for answering my dumb questions about diesels over the past few months. This is my first diesel and you guys were a big help for me in making the decision to change from the V10 gasser and clarifying all of the "mysteries" about owning and operating a diesel. I'm really looking forward to driving my new van.
