Since it been cold my truck starts with a loud knocking and miss.
All at once it stops knocking and goes in high idle with normal noises
until it gets warn. once warn it runs smooth and quite.
The biggest problem is when it shifts into OD the whole truck starts to shudder.
until i give it more gas to pull thru the rough. It seems more throttle load
related than speed, because it will do it at 45 in the city or 65 on the highway.
When i get off the exit often there is a noticable miss.
Any idea?
In the last month have have had friends with the same problem, when the truck is cold it runs rough and once it warms up it runs fine. One of them had 5 bad injectors and other one had 6. Another friends truck is starting it but hasn't taken it to dealer yet. Just a thought. The navistar rep said the fuel pump has cost them alot of money on injectors. Both of the guys that has had the injectors changed the dealer puts a new fuel pump on also.
I was gonna say injectors too--especially with cold start issues. You could have multiple things going on. Maybe we can keep this bumped up til one of out tech's has a chance to answer.
I got the buzz flash done last week and it helped out alot, i did an active cylynder contribution test for the problem there was nothing wrong. like you said it was just a slight hesitation but nothnig like a bad injector, when the tech shut down one of my injectors it was way more stuttery, i mean it was shaking me
I'm with bowtie , If you still have 15W40 oil in the truck. Change it to 10W30. Living in TN. Your very cold like we are in Michigan. I changed mine in Dec to 10W30 and have had no problems but I did notice it was missing on very cold days until I changed it to the lighter oil.
no buzz flash, oil is rotella synthic with less than 1000 miles.
Yes still acts up warm, not at cruise but when there is a little throttle pressure to speed up or go up a hill. Not a problem on hard acceleration.
I have already purchased 6 new injectors and a fuel pump.
when i get two more I'll dive in and replace them all.
I had hoped to replace 4 (1 side) at a time but looks like i think i'll have to do all 8 at once.
How much time is needed to replace all 8 injectors. Any tips or tricks to make it better.
Very courious how these guys know which injector to change in the parking lot.
standard hand tools will be needed, speacial tools like universals, and long extensions will make the job better. make sure you be carefull and lubricate the injector orings with CLEAN injector orings and torque them down to 24 ftlbs. the left side is not bad to do, the right side however, can be pretty bad. i use a T30 bit in a 1/4 wratcheting wrench to remove the two PIA rail bolts. you will see what i mean when you pull the valvecover off.
