<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Howdy All,
I just got an 07 SCAB with the audiophile package. Although it does sound pretty good for a factory system, I was wondering what could be done to the system to upgrade without tearing into the system i.e., no new head unit or amp.
Depending on what kind of music and how loud I am playing it I get a speaker crack which seems to be coming from the front passenger side. The speakers are not blown and I was wondering if I could upgrade to a better set of speakers all around front and back to withstand better the factory power?
Does anyone know what kind of amp if any Ford uses in their trucks? I do not want to alter my "factory system" to much and I was thinking that a speaker change would do it. Perhaps after I have had the truck for a good while I'd consider further changes, but for now I do not wanna cut into the system very deeply.
Are the speakers fairly easy to change in the door panels yourself? Looks like they just pop out (the speakers covers/panels) or does the entire door panel have to be removed to change the speakers?
I know that this is a tall order not wanting to change to much, but any help would be appreicated. I am not one to alter a new vehicle too much especially while I am paying for it still. I agonizied over putting on the cat backs for days, but after I did it was worth it. Thanks

There's a thread in the Expedition forum about this subject. They're all raving about Polk Audio speakers in their doors paired with the factory audiophile system. Here's the link
I installed a set of JL audio's in the front doors and a set of Infinity Kappas in the rear doors. I kept the stock HU and I do not run an amp. I didn't have the Audiophile system. I also added a Bazooka tube under the back seat. My buddy has the Audoiphile system in his truck. I blow his out of the water. He wants to rip his out and do what I did now.
I'm running Infinity Reference up front and Polk db570 in the rear, Alpine HU with no amp (running 23 x 4). Sounds fantastic, but could use a bit more bass. I did the install myself, fronts are so easy it's frightening. THe rears required door panel removal, not too tricky. But if you need to tinker at all it could be a pain in the buttocks to keep removing the door panel.
The only amp Ford uses with the audiophile package is the one for the rear sub. All the rest are powered off the head units. If you just replace the door speakers and tweeters in the front door and a set of 2 ways in the rears the sound will improve dramatically. If you want a little more power to the doors just get a a 4 channel amp with more then 50 watts per channel and you will be set. The front ones are the easiet to replace the grill snaps off and exposes the tweeter and main. Not sure on the SCAB rear panels since i have the SCREW
I have Polk 2 ways in the rear doors and Infinty Kappas in the fronts. The sound improved 200%. I put the crossover for the front doors velcroed in the arm rest.
BTW make sure when you upgrade your door speakers you use Dynamat, they will rattle your doors.
Yes they are located on the rear "sucide doors". I might add that rivals i.e., Chev and Nissan would have you think that by their rear "jump doors" opening further 180 degrees as opposed to Fords 90 degrees is a big deal. I thought it might be before I got my 07 FX2 SCAB, but I was pleasently surprized as the doors open wide enough for anything. Thinking about it I do not think I'd like my doors to open 180 anyways, but yes the speakers are located in the rear doors.
Sarge ,
I am in an 07 Super Crew and I agree about the speaks...I get it on my side....I don't know about pricing structure but Crutchfield used to include any attachments you would need to do an install and if you asked they would send along install reference sheets. I had replaced the OEM speaks in my99 Expedition and used Infinity reference , had to go and buy adadpters for the speaks....Which speakers will get you as many responses as which oil should you run,but if you have used others in the past...cant go wrong with what you know.....most companies offer good, better, best senario so do some research the net awaits.....I am thinking of the sub package for the rear of my crew....,
I happen to have a set of Infinity 10's laying around doing nothing and.....you see what I mean?good luck in your projects..let us know how it goes...
I am thinking about replacing my door speakers and adding a 10" subwoofer under the rear seat of my Supercrew. For those of you who have done this what kind of amp have you used and how many watts?

Let us know when you get you new SCAB
you mean 170 degrees?!?
sorry, just had to point that out. and yes, i haven't had any probs with any vehicles not opening "fully". i think it'd be more of a pain anyways. i like that the rear pass. can shut the door themselves - now with 170 degrees i can't see how that's possible, unless theirs a strap or auto assist or something...
