There are as many maunfacturers for these as there are suspension lifts and shock absorbers. Depending on whether or not you want to just replace the stock manifolds or the entire system will determine whose headers you will want to use. I know that Bassani makes short headers that will bolt directly in place of the stock manifolds. No mods to the stock Y-pipe are necessary. I am sure there are others out there but these are on my 92 XLT 302. They also make for the 351 But they are obviously tuned and calibrated differently for the 351. If you are considering long headers then you are into custom exhaust systems including catalytic converters and mufflers.
I have a set of summit headers on my 96 5.0. Summit was the only one with them in stock. In 96 OBD II or EEC 5 was used and the manifolds had O2 sensors in them. Not sure on the 5.8. But they fit fine and no problems. Was cheaper than buying new manifolds.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Dec-02 AT 01:37 AM (EST)]Does anyone know of some headers or have them installed on their 5.8? Everyone have 5.0 on here? Ford Racing has some listed for F Series Trucks and E Series vans will these work on a Bronco? FMS-M9430T58 is part number.
I had a set of Gibson headers on my 93 5.8. I started with a Borla exhaust and was not happy with the sound, or lack of, and got a set of Gibson headers. One of the best performance mods I have done to the Bronco. The throttle responce is great and the sound is nice and deep. Since the Borla exhaust and headers were not enough sound I had 3 inch pipe and a dual chamber flowmaster muffler installed and the difference is remarkable, gas mileage has increased (not much) and highway speeds seem easier to maintain. The headers were a pair of shorties tha connected to the stock downpipes and cats'.
I got JBA shortie headers with Borla Cat-Back exhaust system.
Specifically, I used the #1628 JBA headers. They are made of 11 gage steel and will last longer or they guarantee it will be replaced. I got unplated steel because it don't matter to me that they aren't pretty chrome or ceramic.
I got the heat reflective tape wrap but found that it was too hard to apply to those tight curves. It claims to increase hp by moving more heat out of the engine more efficiently by not letting it radiate off the surface of the headers.
As i said Bassani has headers for the 5.8 as well. I only referenced my 5.0 because thats what I have. Bassani posts dyno results for each engine that they make headers for. And they are different part nos. for each not like some manufacturers who make one set of headers that are designed to work well enough for more than one engine type.
