I know very little about them, but I needed a small truck, it cost me $2900 for a super cab xlt with 80k miles. Its got a few scuffs, dings and scratches, but not too bad considering its age. This is my first used vehicle and I know very little about cars; so its time to learn!
1. Ive just changed the wiper blades, but the window has a nasty scuff make, can this be polished out?
2. The remote unlock turns on the cabin light and i can hear something trying to work but the doors wont unlock/lock - I have to use the key.
3. I only got one key with the truck, can they be easily purchased? a spare would be nice!
4. I bought a remote starter kit, it looks fairly straight forward, but does my truck come with an immobilizer i will need to bypass? the manual wasn't clear but it appears to have some form of immobilizer.
5. I can see a little rust on the rear wheel arch where the mud flap meets, should I treat this? and how?
6. I plan to have a detail done, but is there a way to repair small scratches? paint sticks etc?
Sorry for the n00bie basic questions. I'm very excited about my new ranger!
Your truck should be equipped with anti theft PATS system. You should see a light in the dash that flashes THEFT when truck is off. You need to go to the dealer to purchase another key. You can program it youself following instuctuctions in owners manual. You should be able to purchase touch up paint for scratches at Wal Mart or Auto Zone. Sand down area around wheel arches and use primer and paint to protect it. As for door lock it sounds like the power unit inside door is bound up. Take off door panel and try lubricating.

If you only have one key, you'll have to go to a dealer of a locksmith that has the right equipment to program it.... To be able to program it your self, you have to have two keys....!
