distributor troubles
I have got a problem I kinda screwed myself because of my newness to all of this. I pull my distributor with out makeing and marks and now i have rebuilt my engine and i need to know how to put the distributor back in and get it all timed up. its a 1973 ford 360 with a 650 4 bbl carb. thanks and advice would be apprecated.

Remove the passenger side valve cover
Turn the crankshaft until the Intake valve for #1 cylinder closes.
Look to see the timing mark lines up with the pointer.
Install the distributor in such a way that the rotor will point to the Number 1 position on the distributor cap.
shown here

Usually #1 goes toward the 1 o'clock postion as your looking at it from the grille.
Also remember that the dist shaft turns a little bit more as it drops into mesh the cam shaft gears.
Make sure you install the plug wires in the correct firing order of the engine in the correct direction the rotor turns.
shown here as well.
