My 97 F150 is having some door issues. I installed an aftermarket alarm system about 8 months ago and have had no problems. A week ago, my alarm went off saying that a door was ajar. Problem is, both doors were closed and locked. My main problem is that the interior lights stay on after the doors have been closed. Then turn off. Then, after a few minutes they turn on, on thier own. I don't understand. They turn on and off when they please now. On some days it'll act fine. Just today, I replaced both door ajar switches, and with my luck the problem is still occuring. I asked my tech and he was unsure, so we just pulled the relay so I dont have to take all the bulbs out. Please help, any suggestions would be appreciated!
I dont think there is a need to lubricate the switches, because I just replaced the door ajar switches yesterday. This morning my alarm went off again after 11 hours of acting fine. The alarm system is piggy backed into the factory door locks. With the interior lights relay pulled, the lights wont turn on, but Im assuming that when the alarm is going off the interior lights turn on. Im wondering if it is a chaffed wire or a bad ground somewhere. When scanned into the ECU, the scanner says that all is good. What gives?
Did you replace the switch in the door latch? That's where the door ajar switch is. Spray a little WD-40 in the door latch and it should cure your problem.
I replaced the Door Ajar Switches about $7.50 each at dealer discount. I didnt know that there was a switch within the lock mechanism. If so, could this make the interior lights go on thinking that a door is open. Thanks for any help.
Yes that is where the switch is, spray it with WD40 everywhere and then slam the door 6-12 times. Now I am curious what switches you replaced, the door switches run more then $7.50 even at dealer cost.
As a caution, WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It is kerosene based, and will destroy lubricants it comes into contact with. Use a good spray lube. WD-40 is ok to unstick the switch, but not as a lubricant. There have been umerous threads on FTE regarding this.
I replaced the Door Ajar Switches SW-5528 (XF1Z-14018-AA) switch. Little black pin switches. My truck is a std. cab so there are only one in each door. I think that the door lock mechanism is either worn out or is not always coming into/out of contact with the door ajar switch. Last night I sprayed Penetrating Oil on the lock mechanism and that seemed to help it, but this morning my alarm went off with the interior lights on again. I just sprayed WD-40 on it and it seemed to help again.
