Yes they should. And I think his truck would be an excellent addition to the article. Strange, as I haven't got to see it yet. The article that is, I've seen Dave's pics.
i remember that they had a small write up in one of the issues i think it was about a year ago. it was about how many people sent them letters and emails about how they should feture more idi's. they had one guys f-250 in the artical and that was a real nice truck with lots of mods done to it. but that was not even half the page lol.

I think is has alot to do with the new generation owners. Nowadays, most not all, people have no idea how and engine actually works all they know is that they are a hotrod diesel engine specialist because they picked up a "chip" at the local performance store and they plugged it in or they bought an after market transmission for their Mustang and they did manage to install it but they are hotrod mechanics..
When I was growing up we made or modified something to make it run or shift better. This generation for the most part knows nothing. They buy parts.
Example,, alright you older guys,, how many of you all took those old muncie and toploader transmissions and ground everyother tooth off the synchronizers to make them shift faster. We called them crash boxes around here. I did it to a t-18 growing up and that thing would fall in gear I even took the detents out of the shift bar housing for second and third gear. You talking about shift fast.
Those days are gone now for the most part and I think that is why you don't see alot of articles on the old stuff anymore. I don't think there is alot of people that is actually interested or would even understand it...
Not sure about the rest of the country w/regard to the date the issue hits the shelves, but I just picked up this issue at my local Albertson's (chain grocery store) tonight. Nice write up on the 6.9. Next article in the issue is upgrading an E4OD...have to read that too as I'm sure I'll be traveling down that path in the future.
But to hot rod and IDI you have to get your hands dirty, diesel engine oil black dirty is what I am talking about. Not many people want to do that any more.
Lets put a chip in it and call it good.
To many, even "professional mechanics" don't have a clue where to start looking if it don't have a scan port.

Isn't that the truth. Some jack*** plugs in a chip and all this sudden he thinks he is some kind of diesel tech. All the funnier when he brings it into the shop and thinks the warranty will cover it after he burned up a valve. Nice thing about Ford is an error message is stored on the trucks computer when you mess with those chips and things. So when those guys come in and say they didn't, we just say how much to write their check for. Can't say the same for GM vehicles though...
I don't mind jumping in and getting dirty doing some real work on my rig, I just want to know what I'm doing first! I also like to know what to do, avoid doing, and how to make improvements. Pretty soon here I think my truck will be ready to be "Sponaugle'd"
i agree with you guys but i can see why no one wants to open the hood and work on there trucks have you seen the engine compartments its got to be a joke you cannot even see the motor it self lol. there is absolutely no room to work under the hood. that is why i love my idi tons of room to work
i have that magazine!!!!! my buddy and i are Diesel freaks. Started out IDI,he told me they were slow and old, i said i liked the simplicity. now he likes IDI's and we are IDI freaks.
i was gonna get a PSD, but after my recent encounter of both an 02 psd 6spd and a 94 turbo IDI at work, i'll take the IDI.
yes i'd rather get dirty then just plug and play. why else do i pull my motor every year to just clean it up? stupdity, maybe.
i'm 18 and i modify! gokart with a 15hp vanguard, done it, lawnmower with a highly modified twin that goes 70 plus, done it. john deere 700 series diesel lawn tractor, bumped the pump.
People like Dave with his 6.9'er have shown me that these trucks take the abuse and don't whine like the new ones with sensors, day in and day out, over loaded and under maintained. the newer ones just won't hold up.
so i'm now searching for a mint IDI 4x4 manuel trans. black....straight front axle. instead of a PSD.
ps Dave, your truck is my desktop background if thats alright with you.
