AC Compressor running when Defroster on?

Hi,

I've got a 1985 Ford F-150. I noticed that whenever I have the defroster on, the AC starts running. I can look under the hood and see the compressor clutch cycling on and off.

Should the AC compressor be running when I put the defroster on?

Yes

The A/C helps remove moisture from the air before throwing it on the windshield.

just remember, so vehicles are automatic (the compressor comes on when you turn the DEF on) and some aren't....

Can be a very good thing if you live in humid climates like Houston. It really bites to have turn on hot air to defog your windshield when it's already hot outside.
