I took my Dad out to breakfast today, and along the way,we passed by a Ford dealership.I saw, as we passed by,their used lot had two '87-'91 year Broncos. After breakfast,we decided to stop and take a look. One was a 1988 dark&light gray two-tone XLT with 89,000 miles, the other was a Victoria Two-Tone tan & Alpine green metallic 1989 model "XLT".What was odd about this Bronco is that it was an Eddie Bauer model, but it wore an optional XLT paint scheme. It had all the Eddie Bauer equipment : seats, floor mats, Eddie Bauer dash emblem, and Eddie Bauer fender emblems, but it had a Victoria Two-Tone paint job vs. the tradition Eddie Bauer paint job. While is might be 'rare'(sort of...),this was one thrashed Bronco! 204,000 hard miles, covered in rust&mud, with faded paint, and needing all sorts of body work. Smelled like gasoline, too.Good for parts,or a total restoration(if you come from money...).What's funny is the truck is far from road worthy, yet there it sits among other used vehicles. Hmmm, some of those parts might be worth making an offer for the whole truck. The driver's door was unlocked,so I took a look at the Vehicle Certification Label. Axle code was '19'(3.55:1 open),and D.S.O. was '16'(Philadelphia,PA. district).I didn't have a pen&paper on me,so I couldn't write down the VIN,and all of the label's codes, but maybe I'll go back and offer them something for it. My guess is if nobody buys that "Eddie Bauer-XLT" it'll be hauled off to the local boneyard & parted out.
It's not a far stretch to imagine that a truck that old could have been repainted, or that the interior could have been swapped in. Mine has had BOTH...

That's very true. I assumed it was an XLT with those Eddie Bauer emblems&interior items swapped in.It might also be an Eddie Bauer repainted in an XLT-style Victoria Two-Tone. The dealership lists it as an 'Eddie Bauer-XLT'.Since I know that Ford never built one(that I know of),it made me want to copy all of the codes&VIN from the Certification Label, then call Ford's Customer Assistance Center, just to see what trim level it was actually built with.It could be a 'one-off' production model, but I seriously doubt it,too.Whatever trim level it is,it still needs a lot of work to be driveable.Since nobody was around,I couldn't start it,or drive it-that is if it would run. Looks like a good parts truck. It would be an expensive restoration project.
How could you tell it had 204000 miles on it? I thought the odometer only had 5 digits on the 87-91 Broncos. I have a 91 that reads 35k, but I know it's 135,000 from doing a carfax check before I purchased it (just in case the old owner tried to sham me). :+
