I ordered an under dash 3 guge pod from Diesel Manor along with the interior pain but they called and said they were out and I would have to get it from the dealer. They gave me the part number which ended in 1086H and the color of medium dark parchment. I ordered the paint from the dealer ($25.00!)and when I painted the pod I found it to be the wrong color. It is the correct color for the upper part of the dash and A pillars but the lower part of my dash is a much darker color. I went back to the dealer and they couldn't find anything but the same part they already sold me. They sent me to another place but they wanted $60 to custom match the paint! I know that Ford could not have that many interior color choices for my truck so someone has got to know which paint to use and where to get it.
The truck is a 2002 F350 with an interior color of 8H it is the tan (parchment) color with a darker shade on the arm rests and lower portion of the dash. I found a link for interior paint that showed a dark and a meduim "graphite" that looks closer than anything else I have found but I can't tell if it is correct or not.
Please help.
The upper portions are alway lighter than the lower on older trucks. The sun bleaches them or some such. My 02 with tan interior used pn m4jz-19m547-1077H and it matches well on the pillar.
grungepuppy if you find out what color that is please let meknow . i'm in the same boat as you .. i may have to remove my entire lower dash and repaint it !
When I got my a-pillar pod. I have a friend who has a body shop he looked at the paint code on the door .A few days later called me to bring in my grab handle to match paint there were five different shades of med dark parthment.
One thing to remember is that the color match depends on how it is applied as well as what type of material it is applied to. For instance, the paint that is applied to metal surfaces often times has to have minor changes to the paint mix to get a color match when painting it on plastic.
One thing you didn’t mention is if you primed the piece. If not, go to the auto parts store and purchase a can of tan primer and paint it first with primer. Then paint over the prime with the OEM paint. Primer will make all the difference in the world when trying to get a color match.
