E4OD Shifting question

Hi, new guy question.
Recently purchased a '95 250, 460, E4OD w. 82000 miles.

My question is when driving down the road the tranny seems to shift through the gears fairly quickly while driving normal with light throttle. Shifts from 1st to 2nd are somewhat normal but there is about a one or two second gap between 2nd to 3rd then OD, or at least that's what it feels like. Seems like lockup will happen as low as 35 and it always keeps the RPM's between 1100 - 1500 when driving around town. Shifts are usualy very firm but not harsh.
It also likes to up shift when I apply part throttle at lower speeds. Alot more throttle will cause it to down shift but for the most part with light driving it likes to do the lug-O-rama.
I have never experienced anything like this before in other vehicles I've been in.
Is this quick, low RPM shifting charicteristic normal for this truck?

Thank you for your replies.

I have a 94 F250 460 E4OD 4.10 4x4. The tranny does like to get into OD whenever it can. Mine will often do it under 35 even when towing a trailer under light acceleration or holding speed.

The 2-3 delay doesn't sound right. I am not a tranny expert but I would suspect something about pressure or the clutches is going south for that gear set. But don't know.

I always felt like the tranny was a bit sloppy for a truck. I later got a rebuild due to pre 95 E4OD issues and my stupidity. I got a shift kit put in and now it is right snappy.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
